Learning outcomes

Units 3 & 4
  • Discover the biodiversity of the wetlands and how the area has changed over time
  • Explore the competing uses and demands of the wetlands, including the different stakeholders and their perspectives of the site
  • Examine the management strategies and the challenges of sustaining the biodiversity of the wetlands, including risk assessments
  • Learn about the wetlands Ramsar listing and the requirements of managing the site
  • Find out about Melbourne Water's role in the Environmental Effects Statement (EES) process
Units 1 & 2
  • Understand the major functions of wetlands in regards to abiotic and biotic factors
  • Describe the importance of wetland habitats
  • Discover the wetland environment, how it changes during the day and the seasons
  • Learn how Melbourne Water manages and protects waterways 
  • Explain why wetlands need to be protected 

Student activities

  • Participate in a presentation about the Edithvale and Seaford wetlands
  • Investigate a water catchment with our Stormwater Interactive Model
  • Explore the wetland and visit the bird hide and undertake a bird identification activity

Bookings

Submit your booking request by selecting available dates in the calendar. We require at least four weeks' notice for tour bookings. 

Note:
  1. Prices are quoted per person and are GST inclusive
  2. No additional cost for teaching staff
  3. A minimum $180 fee applies to your booking
  4. Maximum group size is 35
  5. Submitting a booking request does not constitute a confirmed booking or final price.

Safety requirements

For safety, all visitors completing a wetland walk during their visit to the centre must meet minimum dress standards that include: 
  • Required: long sleeves, long pants/trousers and enclosed shoes.  
  • Not allowed: shorts, skirts, open-toed shoes, high heels or sandals. 

 Further information 

  • Visits will be cancelled on days declared a Total Fire Ban or catastrophic danger rating or when air quality is very poor or extremely poor 

  • The wetland walk will be cancelled on days of extreme, catastrophic and Total Fire Ban danger ratings.
