Learning outcomes

  • Know that water is a scarce resource, and it needs to be managed to ensure water security 
  • Know that the liveability of Melbourne depends on a safe and secure supply of water; as well as treatment of waste water
  • Explain the different methods to overcoming water scarcity
  • Understand that Melbourne's water security (supply) will be impacted by climate change

Student activities

  • Explore the sewage treatment virtually
  • See the process of sewage treatment, from when sewage enters the plant to its treatment and reuse or release
  • Discuss how they are part of the natural and urban water cycle
  • Interact with the educators ask questions


Booking availability

Submit your booking request by selecting available dates in the calendar. We require at least two weeks' notice for virtual excursion bookings.

The 1 hour virtual excursions can be scheduled either in the morning between 9.30am and 12.00pm or in the afternoon between 12.30pm and 3.00pm. Up to 70 students can be included per booking.  Please note that there is flexibility around the length of the virtual excursion between 45-60 minutes. 


Preferred digital platform:  You will need to select your preferred digital platform for the virtual excursion. Melbourne Water can host the sessions using Microsoft Teams or the school/university can nominate to host the session using a different digital platform. Arrangements may be made to test the digital platform prior to the virtual excursion. 


Please note: Submitting a booking request does not constitute a confirmed booking. One of our Education Officers will contact you to discuss your request once received.

Safety requirements

We are committed to online safety. For school groups - teachers are expected to actively supervise students when they are online at all times, and at no point, leave the students unsupervised.
Supervision and control over the student users is the school's responsibility.
