VCE - Western Treatment Plant

In this program students will learn how the largest sewage treatment plant in Melbourne operates; and discover how humans have understood and interacted with wetland and grassland environments. Plus, explore the sustainable use and management of the plant.

Student activities
- Explore the sewage treatment plant by bus
- Observe the process of sewage treatment, from when sewage enters the plant to its treatment and reuse or release
- Identify the sustainable water conservation and engineering activities at the treatment plant
- Explore the Ramsar listed wetlands and observe the flora and fauna
Note
- Prices are quoted per person and are GST inclusive
- No additional cost for teaching staff
- Maximum class size 25 students (two classes max. per session)
- Staff-student ratio: 1:20 with a minimum of 2 staff
- Submitting a booking request does not constitute a confirmed booking or final price
Bus hire
Groups must supply a bus for the tour and ensure the bus company has an appropriate public liability insurance policy ($10 million minimum).Safety requirements
For safety, all visitors to the Western Treatment Plant must meet minimum dress standards that include:- Required: long sleeves, long pants/trousers and enclosed shoes.
- Not allowed: shorts, skirts, open-toed shoes, high heels or sandals.
Additional information
- Visits will be cancelled on days declared a Total Fire Ban or catastrophic danger rating or when air quality is very poor or extremely poor
- Tours to the wetlands will be cancelled on days of extreme, catastrophic and Total Fire Ban danger ratings
- Tours will need to be cancelled when a situation at the site is deemed unsafe.
